JUDGE: MRS. JEAN MCDONALD-ULLIOTT (HIBECK)
I enjoyed sorting out this sizeable entry, having last judge in the U.K. over 7 years ago so I was judging all exhibits for the first time.
What surprised me, movement was so erratic in many cases. A powerful enduring mover with an effortless ground covering stride, propelled by a strong driving rear, but for whatever reasons I didn't find much of that wonderful movement here, some could not even move in a straight line, human and dog !!! Having said that there were some lovely dogs to go over and in my principal winners movement was wonderful.
DOGS
Class 1. Minor Puppy Dog 4 Entries 2 Absent
1st Amoo's Seplecur Justin To Sade - At just 6 months
old this lovely youngster was so enjoying his first show, superb happy
temperament, loved his head, strong neck, kind eye and expression, great bone,
wonderful long tail, shapely quarters. He is so well balanced and is of a good
size, very loose in front just now, but hopefully all will come together and
with his pedigree, one of the top.
2nd Porter's Caredig Denman - Another youngster enjoying his day, great
to see, longer cast than first, he has an o.k. head, and owner needs to work on
his movement, hard to access, he stands on good feet has shapely quarters and
good bone, touch wide just now and loose in pastern, needs to strengthen
behind, but he's such a baby, hopefully all will tighten up and fall into
place.
2. Puppy Dog 2 Entries 2 Absent
Class 3. Junior Dog 9 Entries 3 Absent
1st Goodall's Driftcot Billy Elliot - What a stunner, in
good condition, wearing a great jacket, he is in such great form. Loved his
head, wish his ears were a tad smaller (that's all)!! he has a great front,
good feet, super strong arched neck, overall shape and he is beautifully
balanced and to top all that, he can move, long easy strides, good hind action.
He was a joy to watch. I loved him; at only 17 months he is such a handsome
male he can only go from strength to strength. Well deserved RDCC and RBIS.
2nd Burt-Hughes Windspray Firewizzard - Another classy young man, who
now just needs to fill his lovely frame, he has an o.k. head, but a bit heavy
in skull, a superb arched neck, strong front, well placed shoulder, well sprung
ribs, good length of forearm, this is a well constructed male who will take
time. Steady mover, easy action.
3rd Pask's Baronglen The Knightwalker
Class 4. Yearling Dog 7 Entries 2 Absent
1st Goodall's Driftcot Billy Elliot - My Junior winner.
2nd Kenis-Pordham's Solstrand Arthur Ardfuel - An interesting male to
access, who would benefit and look better with less coat. Built on smaller
lines, he has a classic head, good front and neat feet, such a well balanced
boy with a lovely outline, good length and depth of body, such easy action on
the move, covering plenty of ground. Handled to advantage, he made the most of
himself.
3rd Bradley's Caredig Emmett At Glengail
Class 5. Novice Dog 1 Entry
1st Treadwell's Caredig Echo - Stood alone. A big boy my notes say, but see he is sired by my open winner and what a big lad he is !! This male is in very good condition and his handler needs to stride out more, as this lad can motor, having said that he lacked drive and I would like to see more extension, he was also throwing his front left leg. He has stacks of bone, a strong head and is of good width. A powerful male with a good harsh coat.
Class 6. Post Graduate Dog 10 Entries 5 Absent
1st Gregory's Killoughery The Maverick - Liked this
boy's type, so well put together, although at one point I found him very stiff
on the move, tending to favour his back right leg, but as I moved him again his
action was much easier. He has a typical head, although I would like smaller
ears, strong neck, clean shoulder, good length of forearm, well sprung ribs, he
has a lovely profile, with correct length and depth to body. This male presents
a good balanced picture. He is also in good condition, wearing a good jacket. ,
2nd Wilkinson's Hunacres Klark Gable - This is a young male who is still
very raw. He has a classic head, good reach of neck and his front assembly is
o.k. but he is a touch long and over-angulated behind. He has good strong, long
bones and a great temperament, lacked drive, has good coat texture.
3rd Rowe's Kilrein Christmas Night
Class 7. Limit Dog 13 Entries 3 Absent
Overall the best male class, some very good dogs were in this
line up.
1st Warwick's Cairnstorm First Edition - A totally balanced male so well
put together, attractive outline and a lovely picture standing. In the peak of
condition, well muscled with a good second thigh. He has a good head, with a
super expression, well arched neck and a strong front with clean shoulder. His
ribbing is correct and he is of good length. His movement was powerful and true
viewed from all angles, long easy strides, good hind action. Not a glamorous
dog, but a good honest representative of our breed. CC and BIS
2nd Malley's Ainsea Phoenix Nights - Classy dog of good type, like his
head, dark eye, good ears and correct strong neck set into lovely front and
clean shoulder. He has an attractive outline, but I would like to see more
strength through the hock. He has a lovely easy action, moving light on his
feet, in good condition, well muscled. In excellent coat.
3rd Pinkney's Hydebeck Demetrius
Class 8. Open Dog 4 Entries 1 Absent
1st Tebbutt's Ch. Caredig Galileo - Wow what a big lad
he is yet surprisingly so light on his feet, he moved with such an easy action.
He is well put together, powerful head, strong neck, lovely topline and arched
loin, he has great bone, good length of forearm and superb feet with strong
pads. His picture portrays tremendous ring presence and I am not surprised he
is a Champion. A powerful male ultra fit, in great shape.
2nd Timmin's Ch. Cornovi Cato - A favourite of mine, have followed his
progress since a youngster. He is such a handsome boy, so impressive, has a
classic head with the kindest of expressions, strong neck, good bone and feet,
like his topline and shapely quarters. This is a well constructed male, so
balanced, pity he was so fond of his tail today. So at one with his owner. He
is in great condition, a credit to his owner.
3rd Amoo's Ch. Bokra Wallace To Sade
Class 9. Veteran Dog 1 Entry
1st Holder & Howe's Nellwyns Mr Midnight - Stood alone but what a sweetheart, not the biggest of males, but well balanced, very handsome, lovely ears, gentle expression with the kindest of eye. In great shape, attractive outline, curvy, shapely quarters, held his topline on the move, moved well for his age although close behind. Wearing a great jacket. A credit to his owner
BITCHES
Class 10. Minor Puppy Bitch 11 Entries 3 Absent
What a lovely class of quality youngsters., I really enjoyed
sorting them out.
1st Tebbutt's Caredig Delilah - A 7 month old little
"cracker". I loved her, she had the sweetest of temperaments, a
beautiful head, wonderful neck set into a good shoulder and front, great feet,
strong pads. Super outline, correct ribbing, so well constructed with the
correct amount of bone. Her movement was steady and true, sympathetically
handled to win this strong class. A great future ahead for this one. BPIS
2nd Amoo's Seplecur Berthia To Sade - I am sure this classy young baby
will develop into something special, another star in the making ,such a
promising puppy, similar comments to the first in this class apply. She was
thoroughly enjoying her first outing and just wanted to please. Classic head,
long arched neck, a well developed front for a baby, has great bone, super
outline. Lovely temperament. What more can you want at this age, look forward
to seeing her progress. .
3rd Macleod's Seplecur Little Chippa of Brachan
Class 11. Puppy Bitch 3 Entries 0 Absent
1st Braine's Hollyhenge Cresta Wave - A good looking
youngster who looks the part, so well put together and balanced for her age,
and so sensible for one so young, did all her owner asked. A lovely picture
standing, coupled with true movement showing powerful easy action. A tall girl
with a gentle expression, kind eye, lovely shoulder with good length of
forearm, she has good bone, with width all through, combining elegance, power
and balance. A young lady with a great future.
2nd Macleod's Seplecur Little Chiipa of Brachan - This is a good puppy,
she was my 3rd in minor puppy, on her first outing. She has a typical head,
super expression, wonderful ears, lovely shoulder with a well developed front,
another well constructed wolfhound lovely in profile, curvy quarters, strong
hocks. Sound on the move. In good coat and condition, another star in the
making.
3rd Hawkins Seplecur Lollo Rossa
Class 12. Junior Bitch 13 Entries 5 Absent
1st Tebbutt's Cuuladh Sionainn Caredig - Another star in
the making from this well known kennel, who continue to produce quality stock.
A powerful bitch who commands your attention, at first her topline worried me,
each time I looked at her she looked hunched up, but after a couple of laps
around the ring and on my assessment of her she was relaxed and settled. She
has superb bone, a beautiful feminine head and kind expression, lovely rose
ears, strong front, correct shoulder and upper arm, good depth and correct
ribbing. Wearing one of the best coats of the day. Her movement was powerful
and true with long easy strides. Loved her and she did enough for me to gain a
RCC.
2nd Morris's Windspray Firestorm To Amarach - Built on finer lines than
first, but a bitch with tremendous ring presence, who made her handler work
hard. Classic feminine head with superb ears, dark eye, gentle expression.
Attractive outline, long elegant neck. clean shoulder, correct front and feet.
An honest, workmanlike female who needs time. A lot to like about her, moved
OK, would like to see more power behind and strength through her hocks.
3rd Thornton's Rainster Ruby
Class 13. Yearling Bitch 12 Entries 0 Absent
My first and second could change places many times I'm sure.
Second lost the top spot on movement here today
1st Kenis-Pordham's Solstrand Amity - A bitch just coming into her
prime, in good condition wearing a great coat. She has sufficient bone, a clean
front, typical head with a true wolfhound expression. She has size, shape and
balance with adequate well muscled angulations. She is a steady mover, has a
nice easy action and was handled to advantage .
2nd Heather's Ravensbeech Sylla - Lovely type, one of my favourites who
I have watched from a youngster, but what can I say, she just blew it today.
She is an attractive well balanced hound of good length, has a lovely head with
correct proportion and such a gentle expression. Good reach of neck, correct
shoulder angulations and sound front. Well muscled hindquarters, correct bend
of stifle, short hocks, but so erratic on the move, her owner said she didn't
know why, such a pity as she would have been in my line-up today, but she was
steady enough at times to see she has good drive from behind and extension in
front. A quality bitch, her day will come!!
3rd Pain's Ravensbeech Sabella
Class 14. Novice Bitch 5 Entries 4 Absent
1st Gregory's Killoughery Teagan - This bitch when settled is a good overall shape with a lot to like about her, but less weight would enhance the picture. Adequate bone, a tad heavy in skull for me, neck OK. Shoulder a touch upright and front a little wide, correct topline and underline. Movement was true and hind action positive; she used her strong hocks to advantage.
Class 15. Post Graduate Bitch 15 Entries 7 Absent
1st Sheppard's Cairnstorm Fable For Goldswift - A 3 year
old eye catching blonde who was handled and presented to full advantage. Ultra
feminine, of good type. She has a lovely head combining wonderful pigment, a
good dark eye giving a true gentle expression. A good size bitch with an
attractive outline, long elegant neck, clean shoulder, good long rib-cage,
strong loin and croup, curvy quarters. Sound mover but not quite true in front,
still well deserved her first place.
2nd Johnson's Nellwyns Ms Dolly Daydream - Another quality exhibit. She
has the most wonderful feminine head of correct proportions, superb ears, good
reach of neck. Well placed shoulder, excellent forechest, well sprung ribs.
Attractive outline, well angulated quarters with strong well let down hocks,
correct sweeping tail, she had a steady easy action but felt she was not quite
giving her all.
3rd Morris's Amarach Rathnait
Class 16. Limit Bitch 15 entries 4 Absent
First and second were such good specimens who I am sure will
change places many times, I nit picked in the end but could have easily awarded
second first .
1st Warwick's Cairnstorm Florence May - Lovely coated, well constructed
female who looks as though she could certainly do the job she was bred for. She
had the correct free movement, long easy strides with powerful hind action.
Classic head, gentle expression, good pigment, great ears. Clean shoulder with
good turn of upper arm, good ribbing, correct topline and underline. Well off
for bone. One from the top drawer. I am sure her day will come.
2nd Harvey's Cualainn Persia - Another cracker, loved her type, she was
full of really good breed points. She has tremendous ring presence combining
elegance, power and balance. Good length and depth of body. Great head, well
arched neck, super shoulders, well sprung ribs. In good coat. I found her
movement positive and true, she has long easy strides, but in the end I felt
she could just have given a bit more on the move, but a super bitch who
hopefully will gain a well deserved title.
3rd Harpwood's Kilfenora Spirit of the Sea At Finloren
Class 17. Open Bitch 11 Entries 5 Absent
Well what can I say, this class gave me goose pimples, it
certainly was a line-up of beauties, their heads were to die for. A hard class
to judge for all the right reasons. Superb.
1st Johson's Nellwyn's Ms Eliza Doolittle - What a good looker this
young lady is, so beautifully balanced and well put together and to top all
that her movement was a joy. Handled to perfection, such an easy action, long
easy strides, plenty of drive from her well let down hocks, faultless. What
else can I say? She had it all for me today. BCC
2nd Pain's Ravensbeech Brittanica - High quality, attractive, well
balanced hound of good size. Great head and gentle expression, super eye. A
strong neck going into correct shoulder and upper arm, good length of forearm,
adequate forechest. Lovely topline with an excellent arch to loin, curvy
quarters. Very sound true mover, who pushed first hard, but felt she could have
put more energy into her movement. Her title will certainly come; a first class
exhibit.
3rd Holder & Howe's Mascotts My Lola
Class 18. Veteran Bitch 6 Entries 4 Absent
1st Sheppard's Goldswift Snow Leopard - What a lovely
picture standing; at 7 ½ years old she was there to please. A sound mover
who did all she was asked. A little less weight I felt would be beneficial, but
if she cannot enjoy her food in retirement, when can she. She has a pleasing
head, and expression, so typical, great pigment and lovely kind eye. Strong
neck, OK shoulder and good feet. An attractive exhibit with a lovely outline
who kept her shape on the move, covering the ground well,
2nd Millar's Sabaia's Precious Jewel for Ladestar - An 8 year old grey
enjoying her outing. A graceful lady with a kind gentle expression. OK front
but dippy in topline and too long in loin, she has shapely quarters and is OK
for bone. Moved OK.
